Handy talkie (HT) atau handy talky merupakan adalah alat telekomunikasi dua arah yang menggunakan frekuensi radio dan teknologi push-to-talk (PTT). Untuk berkomunikasi dengan HT, pengguna hanya perlu menekan tombol “bicara” PTT. HT juga disebut two ways radio, komunikasi radio secara bergantian.
HT memiliki jangkauan frekuensi yang lebih besar dan lebih bebas daripada walkie talkie. Walkie talkie tidak memiliki keypad numeric dan biasanya hanya memiliki 16-20 channel program. Ada pula HT dengan akapsitas kanal hingga ratusan.
Dilihat dari jenis Radio HT secara umum yang banyak dipakai ada dalam mode analog (konvesional), ada juga mode digital (DMR) ada juga yang mode Digital truking. HT ada yang bisa diprogram secara manual dengan pencetan topol yang ada, namun ada juga yang pakai komputer dan software tertentu. Isi channel dalam walkie talkie sudah ditentukan dan frekuensinya terprogram, sehingga tidak dapat diubah sendiri dari perangkat.
Frekuensi HT yang umum digunakan ada pada band VHF dan UHF, ada juga HT dengan band HF namun jarang. Misal frekuensi HT yang umum digunakan kisatan 140Mhz, 150Mhz, 160Mhz 170Mhz ada juga UHF pada kisaran 400Mhz. Alokasi khusus ada yang menggunakanUHF pada 200, 300 Mhz ada ada juga yang menggunakan 800Mhz seperti komunikasi pada Radio Polisi.

HT dapat mencapai jarak antara 1 hingga 5 kilometer di area terbuka, tetapi jarak ini dapat berkurang hingga 50% di daerah padat atau di dalam ruangan. untuk membuat jangkauan lebih jauh orang iasa menggunakan Radio Pancar ulang (RPU) yang dipasang di tempat tinggi atau terbuka dengan Tower khusus.
